Building Community- Tip for the Day

Embrace diversity!

They say that variety is the spice of life, and I believe it! Who wants everything to be exactly the same, all the time? Not this girl. How boring!

God is a fan of diversity too! That’s why He created us with different gifts, talents, personalities, abilities, looks, purpose, and interests.

Each individual is unique- a part of a greater whole. And together, we are better!

That’s why I could not be more excited about this week’s spotlight feature, Yvonne Chase!

Talk about diverse! Yvonne and I could not be more different!

My writings tend to be more sentimental and contemplative, whereas Yvonne’s are forthright and bold!

Our niche may be different too, but our message in one of unity- that Christ be glorified!

Yvonne and I first “met” at a blog linkup, and she has been a faithful contributor to this linkup from the beginning.

Please help me welcome her to the stage!

**Because this linkup is all about cultivating community, I ask that you please make a true effort to connect with Yvonne in one of the channels she has listed below.**

And now for our Spotlight Writer!

Meet Yvonne Chase!

Yvonne is a dating & relationship coach, a TV & radio personality, and a public speaker. Phew!

In her own words:

Hi! I’m Yvonne. I blog at http://yvonnechase.com

I currently live in NYC and am ready to move ASAP!

I’m single. No Children- (Love them, don’t want them coming out of my body) 😉

I started an amazing newsletter packed with valuable information for singles and couples many years ago. That newsletter then became my blog (I believe four years ago).

Blogging was the next step to my newsletter which I started because of my passion for relationships and my passion for singles to live a great life and date smart.

Five Faves

Fave food- Right now I am in love with Walnut Milk.

Fave Book- A Woman After God’s Own Heart

Fave Pastime- Cooking

Fave Childhood Memory- Going to Montague Beach, back home in Nassau Bahamas every Saturday. We’d all pile into the Escort with 2 dogs and head to the beach. 🙂

Fave Quote- “When purpose is not known, abuse is inevitable.” – Myles Munroe

Fun Fact

Special talent: I can see things before they ever happen; good things and bad things.

Prayer Prompt

Pray God would send me my tribe of readers and people who will benefit the most from what God lays on my heart.

I Could’ve Married an Unbeliever but I Chose to Obey God Instead

Last week, I wrote a post about Christians marrying unbelievers. After publishing that post, I woke up one morning to a detailed email response from a reader who is a follower of Christ and knowingly married an unbeliever.

She continues to believe God for her husband’s salvation, and shared her story with me in hopes that our Lord would lead me to show mercy instead of judgment to my friend who is married to an unbeliever.

Here is my response to her…{continue reading here}

Building An Inclusive Community

May 16, 2018 By Rachel Lee 11 Comments

What does it take to build a community that's inclusive? I came across a recent quote that read, "remember what it felt like to be excluded, so you can help to build a community that's inclusive." There are many different ways we can seek to include others. This faith-based linkup is just one way to accomplish this. I came across the above quote not long ago, and it immediately got my attention.

It’s a simple concept really. Think back to a time when you felt excluded, and attempt to do the opposite.

It really just boils down to the age-old scripture verse, found in Luke 6:31

“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

When I was in the sixth grade, I had a group of 3-4 friends who were part of the “in” crowd. They were popular, and they knew it! I’m not sure how I was accepted into their “club” but alas there I was.

I wish I could say that this group of friends were caring and kind, but that’s not necessarily the case. Sure, they had their moments- specifically when it benefited them- but for the most part, they used their popularity as a catapult to be mean to those who didn’t quite fit in.

One day, while on the playground, I caught them scolding another friend of ours for playing jump rope with one of the outcast kids. I can’t really recall what got into me, but I had had enough! I walked right over to our fellow classmate, picked up the jump rope and proceeded to play along with her.

You should have seen the expression on her face! She lit up!

The expressions on my friends’ faces however, were that of utter shock and horror. They yelled at me from afar, threatening to exclude me from their club if I didn’t put down the jump rope and follow them.

I refused.

And they did exclude me from their club. I had become the new outcast.

But you know what? I gained a longtime friend that day, and I never looked back!

Writers Need Community Too!

Hey friends! Today I’m changing things up a bit.

I’m working on a project that the Lord has laid heavily on my heart. And I’m VERY excited about it!

However, as most of you know, beginning a new project often means scaling back on others.

Don’t worry. I’m not closing the #destinationInspiration linkup, but I AM making a few changes during the month of May. Partly because I need my attention and focus to be elsewhere for a time, and partly because I felt it was time for a change!

Honoring the Grief-stricken Woman on Mother’s Day

May 1, 2018 By Rachel Lee 31 Comments

In reflecting on Mother's Day, I recall a conversation I had with a dear friend of mine that single-handedly changed the way I approach this particular holiday. The truth is, not everyone looks forward to Mother's Day. For the grief-stricken woman, Mother's Day can resurrect a potpourri of emotions...

In reflecting on Mother’s Day, I recall a conversation I had a few years ago with a good friend of mine.

We had just finishing up lunch, when I casually made mention that I would see her at church on Sunday, to which she quickly refuted, “Oh no you won’t! I don’t do church on Mother’s Day.”

I shot her a puzzled look. And sitting back in her seat, she proceeded to tell me that Mother’s Day, for her, was just too painful.

What’s Your Perspective? And Why It Matters

April 25, 2018 By Rachel Lee 22 Comments

"Perspective adds a breath of fresh air to the otherwise suffocating demands of life." ~Charles R. Swindoll. Perspective is the difference between merely seeing, or truly believing. Perspective, in the life of a believer makes all the difference in the world, and yet is given very little thought. Click here to read how the way we view life can either make, or break us. And we you can do about it! #perspective #christianliving #biblicaladvice #scripturaltruth

“Perspective adds a breath of fresh air to the otherwise suffocating demands of life.”

— Charles R. Swindoll

Perspective.

Perspective is the difference between viewing the glass as half empty or half full.

It is the difference between merely seeing and truly believing.

The difference between complaining about our circumstances, and being grateful despite them.

Perspective can make or break us.
