Rediscovering Hope Through the Lens of Suffering

Finding Hope in the Midst of the Storm

March 6, 2019 By Rachel Lee 31 Comments

Real Women. Real Stories. Real Hope.

When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”
“Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.” – Matthew 14:26-33

Do you believe it’s possible to have hope in the Storm?

Being an island girl, I’m very familiar with storms. In my neck of the woods, we have a period of not just one or two, but five whole months earmarked for storms. Yep, it’s a thing.

From June to November of each year you’ll find us either preparing for a storm, in the midst of a storm, recovering from a storm, or my personal favorite: thanking God we were spared from the storms.

So, yes, I know storms quite well.

But in the summer of 2017 my storm experience escalated to a whole new level.

Learning to Live Out Real Hope in Chronic Illness

February 27, 2019 By Rachel Lee 29 Comments

Real Women. Real Stories. Real Hope.

Would you dare to believe that it’s possible to live out real hope in chronic illness?

Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” – 2 Corinthians 12:8-9

I’ve struggled with my health for practically my entire life. It hasn’t always been major things, but those gnawing little symptoms that leave you wondering if there is something wrong or if it’s all in your head.

And most of my life, I’ve lived with the “suck it up” mentality. My thoughts resembled something like: Everyone has problems. Mine aren’t a big deal. If I were just stronger, I’d be fine.

Now these thoughts got me through most of my adolescent life, striving to look fine and act fine. But they planted roots of deep brokenness both in my view of myself and how God could work in me as I tried to cover up my weakness.

Hope After Divorce: Divorce as a Christian Woman is Not the End of Your Story

February 20, 2019 By Rachel Lee 535 Comments

Real Women. Real Stories. Real Hope.

Did you ever imagine divorce would be a part of your story?

I never thought marriage and divorce would be a part of my story. It’s hard to even fathom the depths of pain that come with divorce. How does one get over divorce and move on? Is hope after divorce even possible?

So many questions… questions that do not have pat Christian answers. Marriage does not always turn out the way we would expect.

Just to clarify, this post is not a Christian view on divorce, a look at what the bible says about divorce, or an answer to the question, “is divorce a sin?”

Today, I simply want to share my story of Divorce with you and how I found Hope and Joy in Jesus through divorce.

Hi, my name is Tiffany. I am a Christian Woman – for over thirty years– and I am divorced.

Restoring Hope in Marriage: Why it’s Important to Leave Your Parents and Cleave to Your Spouse

February 13, 2019 By Rachel Lee 280 Comments

Years ago, when my marriage was at its messiest, I was not a cleaver. I’m not talking about being like June Cleaver, but rather about the need to unite with my husband.

One of the most important ways that I did not unite with him was in how I chose to align myself with my mom. Unfortunately, I was not just aligning with her, but uniting with her against my husband.

When Mary arrived and saw Jesus, she fell at His feet and said, “Lord, if you had only been here, my brother would not have died.” (John 11:32)

Do you ever doubt God’s love for you? Especially in times of suffering?

The above verse contains the words spoken by Mary after the untimely loss of her brother, Lazarus, thousands of years ago. And let’s be honest, we ask the same type of questions when walking through our own seasons of suffering, don’t we?
